A Statistical Observation on the Hospital Admission Days after Abdominal Surgery Cases

Abstract
During the last three years of period from Jan. 1971 to Dec. 1973, 129 Patients with carious cases were abdominal operation upon at the department of general surgery of National Seoul hospital.
Some interesting facts obtained through this study were as follows;
(1) In this study the major cases of abdominal surgery were consisted of twelve different types of abdominal operation cases. Among them acute appendicitis cases was 62% of the total cases, peritonitis was 14%, gastric ulcer was 5.4% and other¢¥s was 18% in sequence.
(2) Average of hospital admission days of five different type in abdominal surgery cases were 19.5 ¡¾0.7 in upper gastric intestinal bleeding, 15.4¡¾3.5 in gastric ulcer.12.2 ¡¾1.9 in peritonitis, 8.0 ¡¾l.9 in pyloric stenosis and 0.5 ¡¾0.3 in acute appendicitis cases respectively.
(3) The ratio of appendicitis cases between man and woman was nearly 1.5 : 1.
(4) The correlation coefficient between age of patient and hospital admission days were r= +0.3 in cases of man and r=+0.376 in cases of woman, these were statistically significant (p< 0. 05), and the regression equation induces were shown as the following: y=0.1x+3.68 in man and y=0.075x + 4.231 in woman.
